Sabah Sailing Association or Sail’a <pronounced “Salior”> was founded in the year 2000 when a need arose to have a body in Sabah to facilitate the growth and development of sailing. Hitherto, most sailing activities were carried out in the private clubs of Kinabalu Yacht Club, Sandakan Yacht Club and Tawau Yacht Club. Private clubs are not normally entitled to Government grants for development of the sport of sailing and for many years, the private clubs shouldered the responsibility for the development of sailing. After the formation of Sabah Sailing Association, there was finally an umbrella body for the clubs of Sabah as well as, more importantly, an avenue for mon members of private clubs to take up sailing. Sail’a was then able to concentrate on the development of sailing including taking the responsibility to train the Sabah sailing squad for such National events like SUKMA, MSSM and to be a feeder State for National Sailors.
Sabah Sailing Association is located in the Malaysian State of Sabah’s Capital, Kota Kinabalu and has its office at C-2-3 Plaza Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu 88100, Sabah, Malaysia.
